Mumbai-Nagpur in just 8 hours! Final phase of Samruddhi Expressway to open this May, know more
Maharashtra is gearing up for a major infrastructure milestone with the expected inauguration of the final 76-km stretch of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway (Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg) on May 1, 2025—Maharashtra Day.
This final leg, connecting Igatpuri to Amane, will mark the completion of the ambitious 701-km corridor, drastically cutting travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur from 16-18 hours to just 8-9.
A modern marvel with six lanes, tunnels & high-tech safety features
Built with six lanes and provision for expansion to eight, the Samruddhi Expressway is a feat of modern engineering. It includes six tunnels, most notably the twin-tunnel at Kasara Ghat, alongside 33 major bridges, and is equipped with high-tech safety features such as CCTV surveillance and emergency helpline systems.
The grand opening of the expressway’s final stretch is likely to align with the launch of the south-bound lane of the Thane Creek Bridge. This twin event is expected to significantly boost connectivity to Navi Mumbai, Pune, and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. Both projects are fully prepared for inauguration, according to MSRDC Managing Director Anil Gaikwad.
First envisioned by former Chief Minister, the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg has been gradually inaugurated in phases since 2022. More than just a highway, it represents Maharashtra’s leap into the future, with high-speed transit, EV infrastructure, and enhanced road safety.
