Mumbai and neighbouring Thane have been placed under a Yellow Alert as Maharashtra braces for another day of contrasting weather conditions on June 16. Meteorological Department has issued heat warnings across 17 districts, with temperatures expected to remain high in several parts of the state. At the same time, thunderstorms and rainfall are forecast in other regions.
Heat alerts in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Nashik, Sangli, Solapur and other districts
In the Konkan region, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar are under a Yellow Alert, with hot and humid weather expected to prevail. Meanwhile, neighbouring Raigad and Ratnagiri have been placed under a Yellow Alert due to the possibility of thunderstorms and rainfall.
North Maharashtra districts including Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon and Nashik are also expected to experience intense afternoon heat. However, light to moderate rainfall has been forecast in the Ghat areas of Nashik. Further south, Sangli and Solapur are likely to witness heatwave-like conditions and remain under a yellow alert.
Pune and Satara have been issued Yellow Alerts as thunderstorms and showers are likely. While no formal warning has been issued for Kolhapur, isolated light rainfall is expected in parts of the district.
Residents and farmers advised to stay prepared
As per reports, over the next few days, the state is expected to experience high temperature, cloudy skies and intermittent thunderstorms. Authorities have urged residents to take precautions. Farmers have also been advised to monitor weather forecasts closely and undertake sowing activities only after consulting guidance issued by the Agriculture Department.
