Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) wrapped up 2024 with impressive cargo growth, recording a 17% rise in international cargo volumes. The airport achieved its highest-ever daily tonnage of 204 metric tonnes and set a new milestone in March 2024 by handling 60,659 metric tonnes of international cargo.
CSMIA expanded its global connectivity, now serving 687 international destinations, with new routes to places like Tripoli, Khabarovsk, and Damascus. International cargo growth was driven by pharmaceuticals, agro products, and automobile goods, which saw year-on-year increases of 24%, 22%, and 20%, respectively. Domestically, automobile goods led the surge, with a notable 31% rise. The festive season brought a 53% boost in international shipments, further fuelled by the e-commerce boom.
Key infrastructure upgrades included a 10 MT weighing scale and revamped security systems, enhancing efficiency. CSMIA’s commitment to operational excellence was recognised with the “Cargo Airport of the Year” award for the sixth consecutive year.
