The wait for a faster rail link between Bengaluru and Mumbai could soon be over. Indian Railways is preparing to introduce its second Vande Bharat sleeper service on the KSR Bengaluru-Mumbai CSMT route, with the train expected to begin operations later this month. The proposed service will bring the journey down to under 16 hours, compared with around 24 hours on the existing Udyan Express.

A faster overnight connection

  • Frequency: Six days a week in both directions

  • Bengaluru to Mumbai: Departs KSR Bengaluru at 10 pm, arriving at Mumbai CSMT at 1:50 pm the next day

  • Mumbai to Bengaluru: Departs Mumbai CSMT at 10:30 pm, reaching Bengaluru at 1:50 pm the following day

  • Proposed stops: Anantapur, Guntakal, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Solapur and Kalyan

The 16-coach train will have 11 AC 3-tier coaches, four AC 2-tier coaches and one AC First Class coach. Designed to run at up to 160 kmph, it will offer hot-water showers in First Class, along with bio-vacuum toilets and an accessible toilet with a baby-care station. The final launch date and timetable are yet to be officially announced.
