The long overdue Kalyan-Taloja (Orange Line 12) of Mumbai Metro Service is finally picking up pace. Maharashtra’s Chief Minister on March 3, formally inaugurated construction work of the Orange Line, which will connect Kalyan–Dombivli–Amandoot (Taloja) via 19 elevated stations.
Proposed stations on this route are APMC Kalyan, Ganesh Nagar, Pisawali Gaon, Golvali, Dombivli MIDC, Sa Gaon, Sonar Pada, Manpada, Hadutane, Kole Gaon, Nilje Gaon, Wadavali, Bale, Vaklan, Turbhe, Pisawe Depot, Pisawe and Taloja. So far, MMRDA has floated tenders for nine stations.
Mumbai’s Line-12 will be built as a 22.17 km long southern extension of Line-5, at an estimated cost of ₹5,865 crore. The project is presumed to be completed by December 2027.
MMRD hopes to witness approximately 1.25 lakhs passengers in the first year of service and more than 2.6 lakh daily commuters by 2031. The impetus behind the project is to decongest Mumbai and encourage people to move out from crowded parts of the city to this area, accelerating growth and development.
