Augmenting medical facilities in the city, Kanpur's Hallet Hospital to get a new Ward 50

With an objective to expand the medical facilities available in the city, Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur commonly known as the 'Hallet Hospital' is looking forward to fresh developments. As per reports, the new Ward 50 of the hospital complex would be ready to accommodate patients in a year. The hospital administration has also planned the installation of a 20 thousand litre oxygen supply facility for the patients.

Automatic metro to ply in Kanpur soon; carriages to arrive in the city by June

The Kanpur Metro has decided to commission automatic metro carriages soon, bringing the upgraded technology to the city. These trains are capable of regulating speed, stopping at stations and even opening doors, however, as per reports, these automatic carriages will be manned by a driver to shut the carriage doors at the closing hours. As per reports, the metro will make its maiden run in Kanpur along the IIT-K to Moti Jheel priority corridor, November 30 onwards.

A gift to all marathon lovers; Kanpur sprinters to complete a run to Khajuraho in 20 hours

With an aim to boost the love for marathon sports among the young and the old, eight athletes from the City Runners Group are supposed to run from Kanpur to Khajuraho. The group of athletes will begin their journey on 22nd January with an objective to complete the inter-state relay race within 20 to 24 hours. Spread over a distance of 230 Km, the race route shall be covered following the chain system.

Kanpur Municipal Corporation to initiate new plans for tackling rising air pollution in the city

In recent times, Kanpur has often recorded alarming measures of the air quality index. With an aim to reduce the ascending levels of air pollution in the city, Kanpur Municipal Corporation is soon planning to implement a list of measures to control the situation. Reportedly, the organization has received a grant of more than 70 crores for this purpose.

Roads to be refurbished; air purifiers to be installed


The Kanpur Municipal Corporation is working on schemes to combat air pollution in alignment with the development works of Prayagraj. There are plans of setting up a new electricity-powered crematorium at the Bhagwatdas Ghat. The new centre would add to the two existing ones(the second centre is not operational) at Bhairon Ghat and the one at Bhagwatdas Ghat. In addition to this, an electric centre for the efficient disposal of remains of the animals is also in line. This facility would come up at the waste disposal centre in Bhausingh, Panki.

The proposed plan also seeks to revamp the 2 dozen dusty roads of the city and install Urban T air purifiers at around 10 road crossings. The areas surrounding the main drains across the city would be converted to tiled surfaces to prevent the spread of the dirt. As per reports, the chief engineer has asked executive engineers to chalk out more proposals for pollution control and efficient waste disposal in adherence to the given budget.

New fountains to be set up; old ones to be repaired


The current project also includes the construction of new fountains and renovation of the old ones. For this, the municipal corporation has prepared a list of spots for setting up fountains which include Baradevi Chauraha, Gol Chauraha, Shyamnagar Chauraha, Bakarganj Chauraha, Azaad Chauraha, Ratanpur amongst others. Additionally, the fountains at the main road crossings of Kidwainagar, Ghantaghar, Norona, Phoolbagh, Bhagwatdas, Swaroop Nagar, Bakarmandi, Govind Nagar, Shastrinagar, Kakadev and others are to be repaired.

Kanpur Airport's new terminal expected to be completed by May'21; taxi-area & runway to be linked

The Divisional Commissioner conducted an inspection recently at the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Airport to witness the progress of the upcoming terminal. This survey expanded over the models of pivotal construction work of the terminal and aircraft taxi area, including power, sewage, road and generator back-up. As per construction agency officials, about 25% of work has been completed here, while the remaining will be get completed by May this year. In view of this timeline, an airport official stated that commissioning of the airport could be planned in September 2021.
