With the High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) deadline concluding in Indore today, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in the district is set to launch a checking drive against vehicles without the mandatory plate. Around 4-5 lakh vehicles in the district still lack HSRP, prompting the RTO to take action.
Regional Transport Officer Pradeep Sharma stated that a ₹500 fine would be imposed on non-compliant vehicles, but those awaiting fitted plates would be exempt. Dealers have requested an extension due to a backlog caused by high demand, taking over 15 days for plate preparation.
Fines Imposed, Bus Owners Seek Extension; MP Minister Explores Traffic Solutions
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways mandates HSRP for vehicles sold before April 2019, with fines ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 for non-compliance. Meanwhile, the President of the Prime Route Bus Owners Association urged a two-month extension for HSRP fitting, citing the significant number of buses and vehicles awaiting compliance.
Meanwhile Madhya Pradesh officials addressed the city’s increasing traffic issues, considering mass transportation solutions and proposing a ropeway installation. Plans for constructing bridges at Marimata and Bade Ganpati crossings are also in the pipeline to alleviate traffic congestion.
