Glow Garden at Flower Park to be inaugurated on Jan 3
The Glow Garden at the Flower Park on the Sabarmati Riverfront will open to the public on the 3rd of January. Developed by the AMC at a cost of ₹3 crore, the 4,500-square-metre Riverfront Night Flower Park features over 50 illuminated sculptures, glowing swings, and selfie-friendly pathways.
Visitors can also enjoy glowing seats and floors, adding to the park’s unique charm. The garden, set to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister, is included in the ticket price for the annual Flower Show.

The much-anticipated Ahmedabad Flower Show 2025 will now be held from the 3rd to 10th of January, following its postponement due to national mourning for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Organised at the Sabarmati Riverfront, the ₹15 crore event features dazzling floral arrangements and innovative installations. Ticket prices are ₹70 on weekdays and ₹100 on weekends, with a ₹500 premium ticket offering express entry. With increased interest, AMC may extend the event’s duration. This year’s show promises a grand experience, attracting visitors in large numbers to celebrate nature’s beauty.
Fare meters mandatory for auto rickshaws, violations will result in fines
Effective the 1st of January, all auto rickshaws in Ahmedabad must have fare meters installed. Violations will result in fines, and repeat offenders risk permit cancellation and detention. Traffic police emphasise that the regulation ensures fair pricing and improved passenger service.

Bus services suspended near Kalupur Railway Station and Sarangpur Bridge
The redevelopment of Kalupur Railway Station and the closure of Sarangpur Overbridge have prompted temporary route changes in Ahmedabad. Bus services near these areas are suspended, and BRTS routes have been diverted.
The Sarangpur Bridge will remain closed for 18 months, significantly affecting commuters. The Ahmedabad Police Commissioner has advised travellers to use alternative routes to navigate the disruption efficiently.
Gujarat announces Vav-Tharad district and 9 new municipal corporations
Gujarat Government has approved the creation of a new district, Vav-Tharad, formed by bifurcating Banaskantha, located some 163 km from Ahmedabad. The new district, with its headquarters in Tharad, increases the total number of districts in Gujarat to 34. The decision, approved by Chief Minister, aims to improve administrative efficiency and address public demand.
In another move, the Gujarat Cabinet approved granting municipal corporation status to nine municipalities: Navsari, Vapi, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana, Surendranagar/Vadhvan, Morbi, Porbandar/Chhaya, and Gandhidham. The formation of these corporations will be officially notified soon.
Ahmedabad recorded 233 drink-and-drive cases amid New Year’s Eve enforcement
Ahmedabad Police ensured a safe New Year’s Eve with the deployment of 8,139 personnel across the city. The police registered 233 drink-and-drive cases, with the highest number of 35 cases reported in Zone 5. Drugs were also seized from Sindhu Bhavan Road, with complaints filed in Bopal. Officials emphasised the importance of maintaining public safety during festivities.
