IMD predicts southwest monsoon to enter Gujarat in 2 days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) shared on Monday that the southwest monsoon is expected to reach parts of South Gujarat within the next 48 hours. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is forecasted for Tuesday in South Gujarat. A thunderstorm warning, including lightning and surface winds of 30-40 kmph with light rain, has been issued for cities like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Bharuch, Valsad, Anand, and others.

Ahmedabad has already experienced cooler temperatures due to light showers for the second consecutive evening, although the maximum temperature still reached 40.5°C.

Shala Sanchalak Mandal suggests extension of school summer vacation

The Gujarat Board schools are scheduled to reopen on June 13 for the new academic session. However, with the ongoing hot and humid weather conditions across the state, the environment remains uncomfortable for students. Isolated showers have been observed, but the weather has not significantly improved. Additionally, schools are currently undergoing inspections for fire safety and essential certifications.

In light of these circumstances, the State Shala Sanchalak Mandal has advised the education department to postpone the reopening by a week. It has proposed extending the summer vacation until June 20 for students from kindergarten to class 5, and until June 17 for students from classes 6 to 12.

Ahmedabad to implement QR code safety initiative in autos and taxis

Amid rising concerns over thefts and passenger safety, Ahmedabad is set to launch a new initiative soon. By scanning a QR code pasted on auto rickshaws and taxis, passengers will be able to check if the drivers have any criminal records. This measure comes under the Safe City Project. The initiative is expected to be launched before the Jagannath Rath Yatra on July 7.

Service road closures for bridge construction at Nikol, Dastan, and Tapov

The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) will begin bridge construction at Nikol, Dastan, and Tapovan junctions, necessitating the closure of service roads at these locations for 45 days, starting from today. Traffic on the service roads will be diverted to the main roads. Consequently, pedestrians will need to use the main roads during this period.

State government appoints 4 IAS officers to the AMC
