Commuters at Ambawadi Circle no longer have to stare at a 90-second red light on an empty road. The city’s West Zone has launched an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) at 10 key junctions, cutting waiting times to as low as 30–60 seconds.
Camera-based sensors detect real-time vehicle density and adjust signal timings automatically. At Shivranjani Crossroads, the green light stretches longer during peak traffic. At Jodhpur Cross Road, the signal stays green until a 500-metre queue shrinks by half. Nehrunagar Circle now runs without manual police operation.
The 10 junctions include Ambawadi Circle, Nehrunagar Circle, Shivranjani Char Rasta, Jodhpur Cross Road, Star Bazaar Tran Rasta, ISRO Gate, Shivanand Ashram, Ramdevnagar, ISKCON Cross Road, and CN Vidyalaya Junction. Traffic DCP Naresh Kanjariya said 50 more junctions will get the system after successful trials.
