A massive increase in temperature has been observed over the last week in the Indore and nearby areas. In light of the soaring temperatures and hot winds blowing towards the state from Rajasthan, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert from April 8 to 10. The maximum temperature has been recorded to be 40˚C this week while the minimum temperature has not dropped below 22.5˚C during the nighttime.

IMD’s orange alert indicates that the heat will only become more brutal in the following days. Numerous districts in the state will experience scorching heat for at least the next five days. According to IMD scientists, it is possible that the highest temperature will reach up to 45˚C this summer.
On Thursday, while Indore recorded the highest temperature to be 40˚C, the temperature in many other districts also crossed the 40˚ mark. Among the districts exceeding the 40˚C mark, Khargone recorded the highest temperature at 44˚C, followed by Khandwa at 43.5˚C, Rajgarh at 43.2˚, Ratlam at 43˚, Narmadapuram at 42.9˚, Naugaon at 42.5˚, Dhar at 42.4˚C, Khajuraho at 42.2˚, and Guna and Damoh at 42˚.

In wake of a hike in temperature, officials in the city have been making several changes including, the alteration of school timings, and changes in power supply infrastructure. Consequently, a health advisory has also been issued by the State Health Department.
