In the wake of the first wave of coronavirus, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had granted around a 142-day period to complete the Kanpur-Prayagraj highway. As per reports, the construction agency had appealed to the NHAI for another push in the schedule, in line with the delays caused during the second wave. Though, no such alteration has been processed.

Parallelly, the NHAI survey of the project has concluded positive remarks regarding the completion of the project within the awarded time frame. As such, the deadline of the project, remains unchanged, in February 2022.

The 145-km-long stretch is pegged to be the second six-lane highway in the Kanpur region, after the Chakeri-Etawah highway. Commuters will be able to complete their journey in just 135 minutes here, averting the troubles of traffic jams and diversions. Vehicular movement from all towns mapping through the highway expanse will be streamlined through 48 upcoming bridges here, read reports.

Until now, a four-lane route has been connecting the two cities, which permits one-way travel in about 3 and a half hours. It may be noted that due to the ongoing construction work and several diversions at present, it takes around 5 hours to complete the journey.
