Rain seems to be following an unusual timeline and an equally unusual pattern in Lucknow, as the city has been witnessing incessant downpour for the past 45 hours. Most of city life has been disrupted due to the torrential weather, with severe to more severe drainage woes, waterlogging, falling trees and other related issues.

Overall, 86.6 mm of rain has been measured as of Friday at the Regional Meteorological Centre in Amausi. As for the temperature, the mercury has taken a sharp dip of 10 degrees. The maximum temperature today will reach just 23.5°C, while the minimum will hover around 22.4°C. In view of the uninterrupted rainfall, both government and non-government schools have also been suspended for today.

Reportedly, this has been one of the longest periods of showers recorded over the past few years, as the rain has remained continuous since Thursday midnight. The reason for such torrential weather is said to be the formation of a low-pressure zone over the Bay of Bengal, which eventually moved towards UP, bringing intense moisture to the region. This pattern is being described as unusual, as the monsoon usually begins to exit the region by this time in September.

Although the bout of monsoon has weakened today, light rainfall, along with cold and intense winds, is still being experienced in the city, and is expected to continue till tomorrow, Sunday.

With a good amount of rainfall recorded back in August, city folks were no strangers to the major waterlogging issues plaguing not only the narrow alleys of Lucknow but also its major streets. However, with this severe bout of rain that has not taken a pause for more than two days now, Lucknow has come to a standstill, with flooding, road blockades, falling trees, disrupted electricity supply and a heavy toll on domestic sewage and drainage systems.

In view of the rainfall and fallen trees, the traffic police have issued an advisory, urging people to exercise caution while travelling through waterlogged roads and routes affected by fallen trees. Continuous rainfall has also disrupted power supply, with several parts of the city facing power cuts and related difficulties.

Lucknow Airport has also advised passengers to leave home with extra time in hand due to poor weather conditions and waterlogging. Traffic movement has been affected across several parts of the city, with waterlogged roads causing disruptions in several areas.
