Indian Railways is set to introduce the new Namo Bharat train between Lucknow and Kanpur, to ease daily travel. The fully air-conditioned service will offer metro-style amenities and faster connectivity. Alongside the Lucknow–Kanpur corridor, the Meerut–Saharanpur route is also under consideration for Namo Bharat operations, due to high commuter volume.

Namo Bharat is a semi-high-speed train, designed for short-distance routes. Major highlights include:

• 12 coaches

• Seating capacity of 3,200 passengers

• Top speed of 160 km/h

• Metro-style interiors

• ‘Kavach’ technology for onboard safety

While no official launch date has been announced, both the Lucknow–Kanpur and Meerut–Saharanpur routes are in the final stages of network integration, with readiness for rollout.

Railway Minister further confirmed that preparations have been completed for:

• 50 Namo Bharat trains

• 100 new MEMU trains

• 50 Amrit Bharat Express trains

These services will prioritise short-distance routes, offering faster, safer and more efficient travel options.
