The University of Bristol has received approval from India’s University Grants Commission (UGC) to establish its first international campus in Mumbai, set to open in 2026. The decision, announced during the fifth anniversary of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aligns with Bristol’s strengths in technology, innovation, and the arts.

Mumbai campus to focus on tech & innovation

Proposed to be located near central Mumbai, the campus will offer programs in data science, economics, finance, AI, and immersive arts, with plans for scholarships under its Think Big initiative. Vice Chancellor Evelyn Welch called it a "pivotal transformation" in the university’s 150-year history.

Additionally, three Australian universities, Western Sydney, Victoria, and La Trobe, also received approval to set up campuses in Greater Noida, Noida, and Bengaluru, respectively, by 2026-27. These developments mark a significant step in India’s push to attract global educational institutions.
