As you’ll walk down the ‘gram worthy Gomes Pereira Road’, a small lane located in Old Goa (Fontainhas) will tempt you to stride along its side with an array of colourful bulbs. That’s Joseph Bar for you- the go-to place for any Goan liquor. Operational since the ’70’s, during summers they even sell homemade urak or jungle juice, as locals call it.
There are small stools resting under the canopy of colourful lights and the entrance opens up to a tiny interior. This quaint space is packed with a complete bar, top-notch craft beer and two cordial waiters- one of them, Gundu, even has a facebook fan page given his popularity with the patrons!

Although a hole in the wall place, this bar is replete with strands of nostalgic character yet it is as contemporary as it can be paired with loads of local drinks which are gonna leave you buzzing within no time. They even serve Susegado, the locally crafted beers on tap and of course, they also haven’t forgotten about the value of good background music to go with our hangouts here!
There aren’t a lot of food options except for the basic nibbles but if you’re still looking for something filling, just order some tacos next door. The new owner has opened up a taco joint known as Tacobab, just adjacent to this restored bar which has given the neighbourhood a new lease of life all over again!
Knock Knock
If you wanna soak up on the unfiltered vibe of this ol’ bar in its complete glory, visit the place in the evening but peak hours might lead you in a corner without a table. So if you’re by chance strolling around this area or have been looking for a bar to chill for a couple of hours, this is where you’ve gotta be.
