Scoring a massive goal, Goa's love for football truly found its validation when a brass statue of global football sensation Cristiano Ronaldo was unveiled at the newly inaugurated park near Arpora-Calangute bridge. Reportedly, the iconic installation is a result of the beautification and landscaping project of Calangute Zila Panchayat. Besides highlighting Goa's Portuguese heritage, the 410-kg-heavy statue is expected to stand as a massive tourist attraction here, pulling in football fans from India and abroad!
Boosting football infrastructure in Goa
Portuguese striker, Cristiano Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the greatest football icons the world has ever seen and has an immense following among the locals of Goa. Revered as a sports idol by all players and fans here, the statue has found its own importance in the football-loving state of India.
The in-action statue of Ronaldo is pegged to motivate the youth to follow their dream and raise the level of the game across the state and bring glory to the nation. Reportedly, this is the first Ronaldo statue in India and it is likely to create awareness about the sport and boost the football infrastructure in the state.
The primary goal is to inspire youth, encourage them and provide the right amenities to culture football talent in Goa. The move has been first implemented with respect to Calangute, Candolim and other coastal belt villages here. It will be then amplified in across the state and then in India, officials added.
