Titled to be one of the greatest cinematic shows in India, the 52nd edition of IFFI at Goa is slated to go live in an all-new hybrid avatar, on November 20. An offline-online combination screening format has been adopted for this year’s programme in wake of the COVID-19 situation in the coastal state, informed Festival Director Chaitanya Prasad. The official also announced the select screening of 18 specially curated films to flag off the ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration at IFFI.

Scaling high on the popularity chart among movie critics and buffs, the 52nd IFFI had received a total of 624 films from 95 countries, engaging the participation of about 69 more nations than the previous edition. Reportedly, the International Film Festival of India 2021 will feature a total of 148 films, from 73 countries and will have 12 world premiers.
Not only this but IFFI’s vernacular reach is also set to expand this year, as the Indian Panorama section will open with the premiere of the Dimasa dialect ‘Smekhor’. Directed by Aimee Baruah, this is the first-ever film made in Dimasa speech, popular among an ethnolinguistic community of Assam. On the other hand, screening of ‘Ved …The Visionary’ (English), directed by Rajiv Parkash will open the non-feature segment, under this label.

The 52nd Film Festival of India will open with the release of ‘The King of All The World’ (‘El Rey de Todo El Mundo’), directed by the Spanish master, Carlos Saura. This will also mark the movie’s first international premiere. Besides, the Indian premiere of ‘The Power of the Dog’ will also attract movie buffs to IFFI, from all across the globe. Brought to IFFI by Netflix, this Jane Campion’s directorial will be aired as the ‘Mid Fest Film’ in Goa.
Dubbed to be one of the most significant film festivals in Asia, IFFI will witness the participation of various artistes, actors and directors, including Iranian filmmaker Rakhshan Banietemad, who chaired the international jury. Make a note Cinephiles, the 52nd IFFI will wrap up on November 28 with the premiere of Asghar Farhadi’s ‘A Hero’, which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.
