Goa has kicked off its inoculation drive in tandem with the nationwide immunisation drive. With seven vaccine centres across the state, the immunity drive aims to jab about 700 beneficiaries on the first day of phase 1. According to Goa’s mapping and registration process, about 19,000 frontline COVID warriors have applied to receive the booster shot, out of which, around 11,000 people have been shortlisted by state authorities as phase 1 beneficiaries.

Goa’s first-line of defence against the coronavirus infection was strengthened today with the vaccination drive, which was flagged off today. Zeroed-on by a lucky draw of a 2,000 people-pool, registered at Goa’s primer research institute, Mr Ranganath Bhoji, a hospital employee and healthcare worker was picked as the first recipient of the coronavirus vaccine in the state. He has been serving in the state COVID wards set up last year, informed the college dean. The first vaccination in the state was administered in the presence of the Chief Minister and Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The state has received about 23,500 doses of Covishield earlier which will cater to the immunisation of 19,000 frontline workers. This number is inclusive of government and private healthcare employees who need to be immediately immunised to tackle any unprecedented rise in covid infection.
