Owing to the daily high records of coronavirus infections in the Goa, the Chief Minister on Friday confirmed that the administration has no plans to reopen educational institutes in the state anytime soon. However, for classes of X and XII that appear for Council exams, schools may resume after discussions and consultations with the Parent Teachers Association ( PTA).
What’s the update?
Goa has been witnessing a rise in fresh infections every day and with Friday’s tally of 555 cases, the state has reached the statistic of 23,445 cases. With a steady recovery rate in the state, the administration has not completely ruled out the possibility of reopening schools for classes X and XII. All other standards remain shut for physical classroom programmes.
“The central government has allowed classes of XI to XII after September 20. They are allowing those with the consent of their parents to attend schools while following all the social distancing norms,” the CM said, while addressing a press conference.

With the Health minister estimating a spike of 1,000 cases in a day, the decision to resume classes for students of classes X and XII is unexpected and callous. As far as their academic performances are of major consequence for their bright future, collecting young students in a classroom would be an invitation for the virus to strike harder in the state. The PTA is expected to keep the safety and health of these batches in mind before finalising on any decision.
