For Goans, their refrigerator is incomplete without a stored box of Bebinca and for foodies, this traditional dessert is a piece of ‘dessert heaven’ on their palates. If you’ve just come to the state for a holiday, we’re pretty sure that no less than 2-3 people have told you to pack a few boxes of this Goan delicacy! It is nothing like any dessert you’ve ever eaten in any part of India and it’s always worth the calories it comes with.
The Goans love their Bebinca as much as Bongs are possessive about their macch-bhaat meal or the love for buttered and toasted pav-bhaji, in every Mumbaikar’s heart. Known as the ‘Queen of Goan desserts’, this sweet treat is also termed as the ‘only distinctive Goan dessert’.

But what is Bebinca?
Bebinca is a traditional Goan dessert which was left behind by Portuguese bakers and it quickly became a culinary marvel! Its main ingredients are eggs, flour, coconut milk and sugar, with a hint of nutmeg but the baking process is a tedious one. You gotta bake one layer at a time which takes up to hours but the end result is worth every crumb on your plate. You can serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream and to make it even more delish, just warm it up a bit before spooning it. The caramelized upper layer gives it a crunch here and there, cutting through its pudgy texture and it’s truly a masterpiece.

Where to find the best Bebinca?
There are a lot of spots in the city where you’ll find Bebinca since it’s a Goan favourite but one place, which nails Bebinca like no other, is definitely Mr. Baker 1922!
An old bakery which is all about vintage vibes and homely service, Mr. Baker 1922 is a gem of the thriving dessert universe here in Panjim and when here, you have to try their Walnut brownies too.
But Bebinca isn’t the only thing you should be setting your eyes to. If you’re looking for savoury bites, their Beef Samosas, Beef Chops, Chicken Patties, Prawn Rissois and Beef Croquet are gonna make you drool, like a doggo in front of a bone.
