The Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahalaya in Indore, commonly known as the city zoo, received three Macaw parrots from Bangalore and Aurangabad on Friday. Besides enhancing animal diversity at the shelter, the animals will add a new dimension of colours to it. As per reports, two Blue-Gold Macaws and a Green-winged Macaw have arrived at the city zoo and have been put in the quarantine ward.
400 birds across 30 species present at the city zoo

In alignment with the protocols, the parrots have been kept in isolated enclosures in a bid to prevent any kind of unwanted infections. Once the quarantine time is complete, a further course of action will be decided after the heath and safety of the birds stand assured. Reportedly, the birds will then be transferred to the aviary and the visitors will be able to have a look at them.
According to reports, Nand Kishore Reddy, bird expert and in-charge of the bird enclosures at the city zoo, informed that the habitat consists of nearly 400 birds, ranging across 30 species. Established at an approximate cost of ₹1.5 crores, the bird aviary has been set up over an expanse of 980 sq ft. It has three pairs of birds, belonging to an exceptional variety that were brought from Bangalore.

It has been reported that the parrots reached the zoo after an extended delay. This was driven by the apprehensions regarding the vehicle driver’s COVID positivity and the restrictions at the Maharashtra border. Reportedly, the aviary Blue and Gold Macaw, Green Winged Macaw and African Grey Parrot have adorned the zoo in new and vibrant ways. Now, the latest additions will further magnify the attraction quotient of the zoo.
