While Indore ranked number 1, Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal followed closely at number 3. Besides, Ujjain and Jabalpur ranked at number 5 and 7 respectively, other districts including Gwalior, Rewa, Sagar, and Satna were able to make it to the list of top 75 cities.
The Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan lauded Indore and other winners for showcasing exemplary standards of food safety and security and bringing honour to the state.
The Indori-recipe for sucess
Indore ADM Abhay Bedekar attributed the achievement to successful attempts at cracking down on food adulteration. Additionally, a special focus was also put on spreading awareness about and promoting the consumption of healthy food habits among people, and increasing licence registrations for hygiene sampling.
Indore Smart City’s policy of recycling and donating leftover food at the domestic level also played a key role. With this, Indore was included among the top 11 smart cities in the Eat-Smart Cities Challenge. For the upcoming phase of the challenge, Indore’s priority will be to score higher in other parameters as well.
