Promoting the use of ancient Indian educational methods in today’s academic trends, the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya of Indore has now established a centre for the study of Jain Mathematics in the institution.
The Jain Mathematics which was inaugurated this Monday has been set up under the School of Data Sciences and Forecasting of DAVV Indore. Furthermore, the special centre will highlight the significance and usability of Ancient Indian Mathematics techniques in the modern-day scenario.
Mathematical methods from various ancient scriptures will be taught at the centre
The special Jain Mathematics Centre was inaugurated on January 2 i.e. Monday in the presence of DAVV vice-chancellor Dr Renu Jain, centre director Dr Anupam Jain and other dignitaries from the field.
This centre has been set for studies of Jain mathematics and the origin of various sourcebooks such as Lokvibhaga and other ancient scriptures. With this, mathematical techniques and methods drawn from Vedas to Ramanujan and Shankaracharya will also be taught at the centre. Moreover, the new centre for Jain mathematics at DAVV is one of the 12 centres across the country and is expected to be extremely beneficial for the students.
A special certificate course to be offered during the current session
Presently, the varsity is offering a certificate programme on ancient mathematics through the Jain Mathematics Centre from the ongoing academic session.
Of the 25 seats issued for the certificate program, 21 students have already enrolled for the course. Furthermore, the certificate course is most likely to be continued in a span of 4.5 months for which the exams will be conducted in the month of May.
Authorities at the institute will further develop more short-term courses which will be made available through the Jain Mathematics Centre in the coming sessions.
