After the successful implementation of the first phase of the metro project, Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation is trying to initiate works for the second phase. Advancing the process, the authorities have revised the draft of DPR for the second phase, as stated by reports. As a part of this latest scheme, Ambabari and India Gate shall be connected by metro tracks, supposed to be laid along a stretch of 23.5 km.

Reportedly, plans indicate that the phase 2 corridor will have 21 raised metro stations including Sitapur Industrial Area, Shatabdi Nagar, Pratap Nagar, Sanganer, Sitabari, Bapu Nagar, Rambagh, C scheme, Chandpole, Bani Park, Sirampura, Ambabari and Airport amongst other locations.
Strengthening the financial viability of the project, the metro officials have altered the MI route after it was decided that the new corridor shall have elevated stations. Given the presence of historical buildings at MI Road and Ajmeri gate, it is impossible to construct raised stations at these spots. Therefore, the route has been shifted to Ashok Marg, in which trains shall pass through Tonk Road on their way to Maharani’s college and SMS hospital. It is noteworthy that the underground tunnel route would have cost higher.
With the B2 Bypass station being the closest to the airport, the project officers have also planned that a linking transport service shall be made function between Sanganer station and the airport. Given a long list of intended plans, the second phase comes with the possibility of revamping the local travel system in the city.
Jaipur Metro invites help from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation
It is to be noted that Jaipur Metro authority had invited aid from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for the reviewal of its detailed project report. After the agreement with the French company was concluded, the DMRC has been asked to curtail the cost of the proposed project. Reportedly, Jaipur Metro officials have also requested suggestions and proposals from the public for better execution of the project.
