Jaipur is known globally for its kite festival which takes place every year in January and the Pink City’s skies are then dotted with a slew of bright colours which make for a stellar spectacle. This festival draws in kite fliers from all across India and is celebrated with much razzmatazz since the early hours of dawn till late evening. But this time the district authorities have imposed restrictions keeping in mind the upcoming occasion, which is inclusive of a 4-hour ban on kite flying during the course of 24 hours.
Kite Festival, the cynosure of January in Jaipur, now laden with restrictions
Kite flying activities start in Jaipur as soon as the festival of Makar Sankranti commences in January. This time the district administration has imposed a 4-hour suspension on this pursuit, starting from 6 AM to 8 AM in the morning and 5 PM to 7 PM in the evening. The directives have come in motion from the 30th of December and will be active till the 31st of January 2021.
Further, the officials have banned the storage, sale and purchase of plastic and metallic manjha, which are the main culprits behind related kite-flying accidents. The concerned authorities have also kept the repercussions of this festivity in mind, when it comes to the avifauna in the city. Flocks of birds get entangled in the manjhas and die of hunger and thirst, which furthermore strengthened the resolution of imposing this order.
Even the operations of Jaipur Metro Rail stand affected due to kite-flying as more than often, metal mixed wiring gets stuck in the lines supplying electricity to the trains, causing unprecedented halts on the routes of the metros.
Along with this as per the orders of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been issued as well and anyone found flouting the rules, will be penalised stringently.
