Keeping in view the continuing effects of the pandemic, the Rajasthan government has declared that state board exams will not be held for 10th and 12th standards. This decision is aligned with the Central Board of Secondary Education’s recent announcement to cancel board exams for students of grade 12. After a cabinet meeting of the state’s top officials was summoned to discuss this issue, it was decided that the annual assessments will not be conducted this year.
21.58 lakh applications received for 10th & 12th board exams
The educational setup across different parts of the country is hit hard by the repercussions of the pandemic, which has continued for more than a year now. With little scope for offline classes and stalled academic schedules, the students had to heavily bear the brunt of the ongoing crisis and its spillovers. As Rajasthan attempts to unlock and revive itself amid the dampening effects of the second wave, the fear around an anticipated third wave lingers on.
State Education Minister stated that the current decision for cancellation of board exams is propelled by disturbing circumstances of the present times. As per official logs, a total of 21.58 lakh applications were received for board exams this year. Out of these, 12 lakh children are students of grade 10 and 9.5 lakh pupils are in grade 12. It is to be noted that the criteria for the final allocation of marks have not been decided yet.
Jaipur COVID update
After a long tryst with the second wave of accelerated case tallies, the daily count of new detections has started dipping now. 241 new infections and 1,888 recoveries were marked on Wednesday in Jaipur. With 6,863 active cases, the residents in the city expect days of relief in the future. While 1,85,127 citizens have been affected by the virus till now, more than 1900 fatalities have recorded, cumulatively.
