With an aim to boost the love for marathon sports among the young and the old, eight athletes from the City Runners Group are supposed to run from Kanpur to Khajuraho. The group of athletes will begin their journey on 22nd January with an objective to complete the inter-state relay race within 20 to 24 hours. Spread over a distance of 230 Km, the race route shall be covered following the chain system.
A step to encourage people towards fitness and long-distance races
The event will witness participation by ultra-runners, professional sprinters and cyclists. As per reports, the head of the Kanpur Runners Group stated that the event is being organised to make the city people aware about the importance of fitness. Additionally, it would also encourage people towards marathon sports and long-distance races. Further, he informed that the chain system would imply that each runner would have to traverse a distance of 5 Km. Thus, the athletes would attempt to cover the entire route from Kanpur to Madhya Pradesh in a short period of time.
While Dhananjay Singh, Saksham Maurya, Yash Mishra, Shiva Singh, Shivam Srivastava, Altamash Junaid, Shreyansh Yadav and Aditya Dubey are going to run for this event, four individuals have been kept in the category of stand-by or supporting-runners. They are Pratyush Edward Osta, Arbaaz Syed, Yash Kushwaha and Tanmay Savita.
The inter-state relay event will start at Saket Nagar in Kanpur. The sprinters will pass through the regions of Naubasta Chauraha, Ghatampur, Hamirpur and Mahoba on their way to Khajuraho.
No-cost training programs for marathon and athletics enthusiasts
The members of the runner’s group in Kanpur offer no-cost training for athletics, cycling and ultra-marathon events. They organise educational programs for the youth about the technicalities of marathon sports five days a week. The group has grown to have more than 50 athletes so far. It often participates in competitions having short-run, long-run relay and marathon events, winning many of them.
