Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh’s most densely populated city is not only a major industrial hub but a cultural one as well. This is a great contributor to the fact that Kanpur’s Central Railway station always witnesses a high footfall of passengers. To better handle the masses, Kanpur Central Railway station will soon undergo a few major changes that will equip it to manage more passengers and provide them with better facilities.

The complete overhaul is part of Indian Railways’ plan to completely change the look and feel of 22 stations across the country. As for Kanpur, the changes are coming very soon and we can expect the station to have state of the art, airport like facilities. This will certainly give a great first impression of the city to new travellers.
The plan to renovate the station was only recently approved. The major areas that the redevelopment focuses on is to make the station cleaner, equip it with better facilities and have all the necessary amenities for passengers travelling by train. On the whole, the authorities wish to provide passengers with a smoother, more refined travel experience.

Key developments coming to the station include but are not limited to repainting the walls, changing the general tone of the place, giving the waiting rooms additional facilities, developing more restrooms, better waiting areas on the platforms and a whole lot more. Once the redevelopment is done with, Kanpur Central Station will become completely unidentifiable- even to the trained eye.
Apart from Kanpur, other stations such as Kolkata Terminal, Hyderabad, Kalyan Junction, Ludhiana and Udaipur City will also get a complete makeover. In addition to these places, a few stations along the Mumbai-Chennai route have already undergone aesthetic changes.
We are glad to see that such developments are hitting Kanpur. The city’s railway station is an area with a high traffic and it sure could use with some renovation. However, as of now, there is not word on exactly when the process will begin or come to an end.
