In an initiative to upgrade the available facilities for the stationing and upkeep of MEMU coaches, the Indian Railways inaugurated an advanced car shed in Kanpur. Reportedly, the Ministry of Railways announced that the ultra-modern and environment-friendly complex has been constructed at a cost of ₹92 crores. Developed by the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, the new car shed stretches over an expanse of around 15 acres, as stated by reports.
With a capacity to house 22 rakes of MEMU trains!

The latest complex comes with an objective to inflate the MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train stock of the North Central Railway zone and propel the zonal passenger count. As per reports, the ministry has apprised that the facility comes with a capacity of housing 22 rakes of MEMU trains. While coaches had to be taken to a different location for maintenance purposes earlier, they will now be supported through this establishment in Kanpur itself.
State-of-the-art establishment to provide an array of amenities
The new eco-friendly complex is equipped with a solar plant, wastewater recycling system in addition to provisions for planting saplings in the vicinity for enhanced surroundings. As per the information rolled out by RVNL, the MEMU car shed will have lines for mending and restoration, cleaning, examination along with an exclusive arrangement for the underfloor pit wheel lathe. Reportedly, the release by the ministry stated that the campus will comprise store shed, electric substation, managerial and security blocks amongst other things.
As per reports, the Indian Railways had notified that MEMU rails had substituted passenger trains on Puri-Angul and Bhubaneswar-Kendujhargarh routes in Orrisa which was conducive towards guaranteeing hastened and on-time services. Now, with the launch of this facility, the services of Northern Railways in Uttar Pradesh expect to be escalated soon.
