Following the successful trial run of the recent electric bus in Lucknow, the city will get 40 more such buses. The run proved beneficial and had a welcoming response from the citizens. The trial run of the bus took place on Monday, February 11. Additionally, a fast charging station for the bus has been set up at the Depot bus station.
What’s the Update?
After the success of the electric bus trial run and it’s warm response, the Lucknow government is planning to make use of 40 more such buses over the course of four months. The buses will be provided and developed in house by Tata Motors. The electronic buses will not only mark a new era for public transport, but also herald an age of more green and environment friendly transport systems within the city.

The electronic buses will ply from Alambagh to Gomti Nagar, covering areas such as Mawaiyya, Charbagh, Vidhan Sabha, Fun Republic and a few more along it’s dedicated route. Fares for the buses will begin from a price of ₹15 and go up to a maximum of ₹40, depending on what route one takes.
What’s special about the buses?
The Ultra Electric buses will have a range of up to 150 kilometers on a single charge. As of now, the company has installed a fast charging station at the Alambagh depot for charging the buses. The bus offers a great design with modern features. Li-ion batteries have been placed on the rooftop which prevent breakdown due to water-logging. The batteries are liquid cooled to ensure longer life along with better performance in all conditions.
The buses are air-conditioned, have modern interiors and comfortable seats for 31 passengers. Many of the bus’s components have been imported from USA, Germany and a few other countries which make use of similar buses. In India itself, the buses have been validated in Himachal Pradesh, Assam and Maharashtra.

The best part about the buses is that they run on electricity and have zero emissions, which is a boon for the city. As it is, Lucknow often faces adverse air pollution effects and the buses could help in bringing the AQI to a lower level.
Smart Bus Shelters in Lucknow
Earlier in 2018, a modern bus stop was inaugurated by the authorities at Ashok Marg and the construction of a new smart bus shelter was recently completed new Awadh crossing, Alambagh.
All these modern bus-stops will run on solar power and measures will be taken to ensure that passengers do not litter the place.
