Marking rider safety as the prime-priority, the Lucknow Metro has once again used new ways to provide maximum assurance to commuters, to ensure safety during the pandemic. Efforts of the UPMRC to UV-sanitise metro rakes, in addition to travel tokens, has registered Uttar Pradesh as the first state across the country to employ such techniques for a safe ride in public transport. As per reports, this innovative method is not only efficient but is also more economic than manual sanitation and can make the trains bacteria proof in just 15 minutes.
Double sanitation for extra safety
The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation will use a radiation-emitting apparatus, imported from M/s FB TECH, an Indian firm in Jaipur. Certified by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in October 2020, the same system was used by the medical industry to sanitise cinema halls and medical equipment during peak outrage of COVID. Each radiation session of this equipment lasts 7 minutes long, disinfecting all exposed surfaces in its reach. However, to become doubly sure, LMRC will sanitise the metro carriages for 15 minutes to make them absolutely bacteria proof.
For usage, the ultraviolet radiation apparatus has an on/off switch and can be controlled using a remote. As per reports, the machine begins radiation after a minute of being switched on.
UPMRC to sanitise Lucknow Metro using international models
The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) observed the sanitation module of the New York Train System, which employed UV lamps to disinfect its trains. Employing similar technology, Uttar Pradesh has become the first Indian state to install instruments on par with international standards.
The Managing Director of the UPMRC reportedly stated that the team has always primed its services to be in sync with the objective to provide convenient and safe means of public transport to the people. Earlier, when the department had initiated sanitation of tokens, the passengers had acknowledged and appreciated its efforts and now, it has planned to use the same technique to sanitise metro rakes, further assuring the riders that their Lucknow Metro was, is and will always be safe for them.
