Courage beyond duty: UP Police Commando Ashish Dixit scales 7,126 m Himlung Himal Peak in Nepal

In a remarkable display of grit and endurance, one of UP Police’s decorated officers, ATS Commando Ashish Dixit, has successfully conquered Nepal’s formidable Himlung Himal peak.

Standing tall at 7,126 metres, Himlung Himal sits tucked away in Nepal’s remote region, northeast of the Annapurna range, a climb only a handful dare to attempt!

The expedition began on October 15, 2025, and after weeks of braving treacherous terrain and unforgiving altitude, Dixit planted the Indian flag atop Himlung Himal at 8 PM on November 3; in a bone-chilling –25°C temperature.

And The Sky Saluted Back

Hailing from Unnao district, Commando Ashish Dixit currently serves with the SPOT (Special Police Operations Team) division of the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and is presently stationed in Lucknow.

A passionate fitness enthusiast, Dixit also serves as a part-time yoga instructor and carries a deep-seated passion for mountaineering. Before conquering this daunting 7000-er Himalayan peak, he had already scaled several demanding summits; including domestic climbs and international giants such as Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) in Africa and Mount Elbrus (5,642 m) in Russia.

However, the ascent of the snow-clad Himlung Himal turned out to be one of the most grueling and defining experiences of his life. In a video captured from the summit, Commando Dixit can be seen proudly unfurling the Indian tricolour alongside the UP Police sigil.

Not Your Average 7000-Metre Peak!

Perched at an elevation of 7,126 metres in Nepal’s remote Nar–Phu valley, near the Tibetan border, Mount Himlung Himal is often considered one of the more “accessible” 7000 metre peaks for seasoned mountaineers, but that label can be deceiving!

The climb is notably demanding, especially during the autumn window (September–October) when snowfall and sub-zero temperatures make progress treacherous. Typically spanning 25 to 30 days, the expedition requires a special climbing permit, exceptional physical endurance, and unwavering mental resilience, as the terrain tests even the most experienced climbers at every step.

Scaling Heights, Inspiring Millions

For us in Uttar Pradesh, Commando Ashish Dixit’s climb isn’t just another milestone; it’s a moment that genuinely fills us with pride. To know that one of our own, a man who serves with such quiet dedication, stood atop the mighty Himlung Himal in freezing, unforgiving conditions is deeply inspiring.

We further wish Commando Ashish Dixit continued strength and success in his journey ahead. And as he sets his sights on new horizons, we hope he goes on to conquer even greater heights, achieve bigger feats, and continue bringing immense pride to Uttar Pradesh, and to the nation.
