Contributing towards India’s mission of net zero emissions by 2070, UP Roadways is set to launch 100 e-buses across selected routes in Lucknow and Ghaziabad as part of a pilot project.
Reportedly, hundreds of electric buses are already being operated in the urban areas of UP, through the Urban Development Department. The expanded bus fleet will provide convenient and affordable commuting options while promoting sustainable transportation in cities.
Affordable air conditioned e-buses will offer comfortable commutes
Initially, these buses will be implemented as a pilot project before expanding to other districts in the state.
Under the initiative, the fare for the new e-buses with a 3×2 seating capacity will be ₹1.63 per km, while buses with a 2×2 seating arrangement will be priced at ₹1.93 per km. The addition of more e-buses to the previously operational fleet not only offers convenient and affordable transportation options to the public, but it also plays a crucial role in fostering sustainable transport alternatives in cities.
Furthermore, the successful implementation of this pilot project has the potential to pave the way for the subsequent introduction of electric buses in multiple districts across the state.
