Here are 7 must-visit places in Indore for your first trip to the city

Some call it the ‘Street food capital of India’ while others call it ‘Mini Mumbai’ for its uncanny resemblance to the maximum city. And the city of Indore, the largest and most populous in Central India, deserves all this and much more for its rich cultural heritage, iconic monuments and of course, the gastronomical delights.

But if you’re visiting Indore for the first time, you might be left spoilt for choice. Where to go? Which places to visit? To help you out, we’ve curated this list of 7 must-visit places in Indore for your first trip.

So, read on as you pack your bags!

Rajwada

Let’s start with a place that’s probably already on your itinerary. Constructed over 2 centuries ago, Indore’s Rajwada was the main residence of the Holkar dynasty. The place boasts an artificial waterfall, a grand statue of Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar, a well-maintained garden and elegant fountains.

Where: M.G. Road, Chhatris, Main Square, Indore

When: 10 AM – 5 PM | Closed on Mondays

Entry: Indian Nationals: ₹10 | Foreigners: ₹250

Sarafa Bazaar

Even if you’re not a foodie, you’ll turn into one as soon as you step into Indore’s Sarafa bazaar. A jewelry market by day turns into a haven for street food after sundown and that’s when huge crowds make a beeline for the market to enthrall their taste buds. From Bhutte ka kees and Moong ke bhajiye to Dahi Bada and Jaleba, you’ll be spoilt for choice here!

Where: Rajwada, Maharaja Tukoji Rao Holker Cloth Market, Indore

When: 11 AM – 11 PM

Chappan Dukan

Another must-visit spot in Indore for foodies, Chappan Dukan features a mix of Indian snacks and other street food items. From Ramesh Masala Dosa and Johny Hot Dogs to Sam’s Momos and chaat at Young Tarang, do take some time out on your visit to treat yourself to most of the toothsome delicacies on offer here.

Where: New Palasia, Indore

When: 06:00 AM – 10:00 PM

White Church

For those who love exploring churches, Indore’s White Church is a must-visit. Built in 1858, it is one of the oldest churches in Central India. The church is built in classic ancient British architecture, a style that was prevalent in all Protestant churches in England during the period. Furthermore, the structure of the church is made entirely of milk white stone and marble.

Where: Pipliyahana Road, White Church Colony, Indore

When: 07:00 AM – 08:00 PM

Ralamandal Wildlife Sanctuary

For the wildlife enthusiast for you, Indore’s Ralamandal Wildlife Sanctuary houses Leopards, Black bucks, Sambhar, Blue bull and Bhedki. As for the flora, it is home to a variety of tree species such as Eucalyptus, Teak, Chandan, Saja, Babul Bamboo and more. In addition to that, the sanctuary is immensely picturesque and the best time to visit is between September and March.

Where: Ralamandal, Indore, Madhya Pradesh

When: 09:00 AM – 06:30 PM

Entry:

Day Time (07:30 AM – 05:00 PM)

₹60 per head

Night Time Safari (07:30 PM – 09:00 PM)

₹200 (12 years & above)

₹100 (Between 5 and 12 years of age)

Free for up to 5 years of age

Meghdoot Garden

One of the biggest and definitely the oldest gardens in Indore, Meghdoot Garden makes for a great picnic spot. It is spacious and filled with pleasing greenery, due to which it draws massive crowds on holidays. Also, there are lots of food outlets and shopping centers in the vicinity. So, you can spend some peaceful time here before you head out for pet pooja.

Where: Main Gate, Entrance, Maguda Nagar, Scheme No 54, Indore

When: 07:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Entry: Indian Nationals: ₹10 per head

Foreigners: ₹200 per head

Central Museum

Established in 1925 by the Holkar dynasty, the Central Museum in Indore is a must-visit if there’s even an iota of a history buff in you. The place houses eight galleries displaying ancient scriptures, coins and artifacts that will take you down history lane from the Holkar dynasty’s past and the city’s rich cultural heritage.

Where: Near GPO Square, Residency, Navlakha, Indore

When: 10 AM – 05:00 PM | Monday Closed

Entry: Indian Nationals: ₹10 per head

Foreigners: ₹100 per head
