India’s longest expressway will soon have two toll plazas, one each in Lucknow and Agra. A one-way journey from January 15th will cost you Rs 500. While for a complete journey from Lucknow to Delhi, a commuter will now have to shed around Rs 900.
The flagship project of SP government was inaugurated last year and since then it is being used by private and commercial vehicles moving between Lucknow and Delhi. The Lucknow-Agra expressway links with Agra-Noida expressway and reduces the travel duration to just 6 hours.
The expressway is also used by Air Force fighter aircrafts, which speaks volumes of its construction quality. Though the facilities such as toilets, petrol pumps and restaurants are yet to come up, this strange move of toll collection by state authorities might attract criticism.
However, still 10 days of free travel are left and while from 15th January, the authorities will start collecting toll, a mere sum of Rs 500 won’t hurt many. After all, you will be able to zig-zag your vehicle and enjoy a smooth long ride.
Recently the state government had also announced to install CCTV cameras on the expressway after accidents due to overspeeding, fog and stray animals were reported. There were also reports that heavy vehicles were illegally plying on the wrong side of the road.
