India witnessed the highest single-day rise in COVID-19 cases (11,929 patients) with the death toll standing at 311, in the last 24 hours. Uttar Pradesh on the other hand, has overtaken Rajasthan and has become the 5th worst-hit state with 12,616 confirmed cases of coronavirus so far. COVID-19 cases in Lucknow has seen a major spike and now, areas like Gomti Nagar and Nirala Nagar have been reported as containment zones.
On Sunday, 29 new positive cases were reported in Lucknow taking the total cases tally to 596 while total active cases to 198. Although Lucknow’s recovery rate is one of the best in India, it is now time to take some extra precautions.
What’s Happening?
The major areas in Lucknow which have been put on high alert include Nirala Nagar, Vibhuti Khand, Viraj Khand, Vijay Khand, Viram Khand and Gomti Nagar Vistar. Five apartment complexes including those in localities like New Hyderabad Colony, Faizabad Road and Mahanagar have also been classified as containment zones.
According to health experts, the number of corona cases have increased due to the lockdown relaxations which have enabled people to move around freely to a major extent.
Chief Medical Officer of Lucknow, Dr. Narendra Agrawal stated, “A majority of those who have tested positive in new areas have a travel history. Their contacts in the family have also tested positive.”
Previously, a particular area was declared as a containment zone only after it reported 10 cases but now such zones are being marked even if 2 cases turn up. Earlier, majority of the cases in Lucknow were documented at areas like Sadar, Naka, Qaiserbagh and Nakkhas.

Although we’ve been allowed considerable relaxations, we still need to abide by the rules set by the concerned authorities.
