In a bid to commemorate the occasion of World Environment Day, the Lucknow Mayor ‘sowed the sapling’ of a mega plantation drive at the Rahimabad Atal Udaya Forest today. Backed by the Lucknow Nagar Nigam, this green initiative intends to plant around 1 lakh plants across 5 hectares of land in the city. Streamlined with this, around 400 oxygen-rich plants were seeded in different localities of Lucknow by the municipality on Saturday, powered by its alliance with the Anantsheel Welfare Foundation and Goonj Sanstha.
Nagar Nigam to establish a green, oxygen-rich belt in Lucknow
Propelling the mission of establishing a ‘Green Lucknow’, the Nagar Nigam has buckled up to renovate 900 parks around the city. With this, the civic body envisages creating a green belt here, which would provide sufficient oxygen to clean the air. It may be noted here that the epicentre of Lucknow’s mega plantation drive, Rahimabad Atal Udaya Forest, has been targetted as the first point of redevelopment under the Nagar Nigam mission. Reportedly, several peepal saplings were sowed here to enrich the air with quality and abundant oxygen.
While the municipal body has allocated a total budget of ₹25 crores to develop the ‘green belt’, corporate giant HCL has come forward to assist the Nagar Nigam to develop the Atal Udaya forest. This will surely progress the district’s agenda of environmentally sustainable progression and the overall mission completion.
Besides this point, about 400 saplings were sowed in different parts of Lucknow as an ode to the celebrations of World Environment Day. To ensure this a special programme was organised at the Charbagh Bus Stand today, Here the Mayor flagged off vehicles full of plant saplings to varied locations in the city, to be received and sowed by other Nagar Nigam officials. These plants, namely peepal, neem, money plant, guava, basil, palm, aloe vera, generate tremendous amounts of oxygen as well and would foster the district’s scheme.
