A 10-day Khadi Mahotsav is now underway at the Central Sanskrit University (CSU) in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, from November 21-30. The festival aims to provide a platform for local entrepreneurs, artisans and small-scale industries to showcase and sell their products. As per reports, more than 160 entrepreneurs from across Uttar Pradesh will take part in the exhibition, offering a wide range of indigenous and craft-based products.
Showcase of statewide craftsmanship
Visitors can explore Saharanpur’s carved furniture and Bhadohi’s handwoven carpets. Amroha’s gamchha and sadri will be on display as well. Sitapur’s dris and towels add to the mix, alongside Varanasi’s silk sarees. You’ll also find Pratapgarh’s amla products and Lucknow’s royal honey. Ceramic and pottery work feature prominently. There’s Bikaneri papad, leather goods, traditional jackets and textiles too. Together, these offerings reflect the state’s rich and diverse craft heritage.
Support for rural enterprises
As part of the Mahotsav, selected entrepreneurs and beneficiaries will be honoured for their contribution to local industry. State-level outstanding units will receive awards, while specific beneficiaries will be provided modern equipment including dona-making machines, popcorn machines, honey boxes, electric potters’ wheels and a pugmill. The initiative is designed to strengthen rural enterprises with improved tools, better resources and expanded growth opportunities.
Competitions and Cultural Activities
The event also features a range of entertainment and competitive activities to engage visitors throughout the festival. These include a jingle contest, a selfie challenge promoting authentic Khadi and local products, a Khadi Mahotsav quiz, short-film making, slogan creation, essay writing and street play performances. Although entries for the competitions are now closed, visitors can still attend the festival to support their favourite participants and experience the vibrant display of local talent.
