Lucknow and other parts of Uttar Pradesh have witnessed continuous rainfall over the past week, bringing relief from the intense humidity. However, the downpour has also raised flood concerns in several areas. The capital recorded a maximum temperature of 30°C on Monday, four degrees below normal, offering some relief from the heat.
On Tuesday, the temperature is expected to rise slightly to 32°C. A cloudy and rainy day is in store, with intermittent showers throughout, keeping the cool, monsoon vibe alive.
Intense rains and flood risks as monsoon strengthens
The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for Lucknow and over 30 districts for Wednesday and Thursday, along with warnings of thunderstorms and strong winds (40-50 km/h). Senior meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh stated that the monsoon will remain active for the next four to 5 days, with moderate to heavy showers expected in Lucknow and eastern UP. Meanwhile, western UP, including Meerut and Saharanpur, may experience lightning and thunderstorms.
A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has intensified monsoon activity, with 45 mm of rain recorded in Lucknow on Monday. While sporadic showers are expected today, heavier rainfall is likely over the next two days, raising flood risks. The rains have already caused disruption, with several flood-prone areas in Lucknow, including Bakshi Ka Talab, reporting waterlogging. The state government has deployed ministers to oversee flood relief efforts, distributing aid and medicines in inundated regions.
Residents are advised to stay alert as the weather remains unpredictable, with cloudy skies and intermittent drizzle expected throughout the day.
