Under the banner of PM SVANidhi scheme, which is funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, street vendors in Lucknow have surged up to four times the initial numbers, in the last two month. These shopkeepers who have been added to the Ferry Policy, will not have to pay up any registration amount. These vendors who have now grown in the city, are officially eligible to work as they please, for their livelihood.

Under this policy, the Municipal Corporation is said to give them a vending zone for employment, which is not an easy task because the already registered shopkeepers, have not yet been fully organized in the allotted vending zone. About 200 vending zones have been set for them by the Nagar Nigam authorities, which are falling short.
The Patri Dukandar Sangathan is demanding to be organized in the vending zone, since quite sometime now. The areas of Aminabad and Charbagh, still haven’t seen any progress. Similarly, the work of arranging these shopkeepers is yet to be done at all the places including Gomti Nagar, Aliganj, Vikas Nagar, Kanpur Road and other areas of the city. In such a situation, the municipal corporation will now have to mark at least 600 vending zones.
Lucknow has ranked second in the country, in terms of the application of PM SVANidhi scheme. The entire team of the Municipal Corporation, including the Municipal Commissioner, after two months of hard work, have surveyed the track shopkeepers and registered them. They have further assisted them to get their loans sanctioned from the banks. The authorities are also planning on creating movable and fixed vending zones, that will be placed in the city, based on the location.
