The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has launched a major initiative to ensure eco-friendly immersion of idols following Diwali. Traditionally, many devotees immerse Ganesh and Lakshmi idols in local water bodies after Diwali puja, a ritual rooted in customs but often harmful to rivers, ponds, and tributaries.
To minimize environmental impact, the LMC is actively collecting idols from across the city for proper immersion. Designated pits have been prepared at locations including Khatu Shyam Ghat, Jhulelal Vatika, and Kudiya Ghat, where the idols and other worship materials will be respectfully submerged by municipal authorities.
The campaign began yesterday and will continue for the next 15 days, with LMC workers gathering idols from all city wards for organized disposal. Residents wishing to participate can arrange collection within their areas and contact the LMC at 9415414111, free of charge, to hand over idols and related materials.
