Lucknow is sweating under scorching temperatures, with the mercury hitting 41.4°C and it’s only getting hotter! The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for over 30 districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, where temperatures may soar to 45°C by next week. Nights offer little relief, with minimum temps staying 5°C above normal in cities like Agra and Aligarh.

UP’s Banda recorded the state highest at 44.2°C, while Varanasi, Prayagraj and Gorakhpur also crossed 40°C. IMD warns the dry, blistering heat will persist till May 20, with clear skies enhancing discomfort. Adding to the woes, Nautapa, the nine hottest days of summer begins May 25 when the sun enters Rohini constellation. Astrology experts predict extreme heat now could mean better monsoon rains later, as per ancient weather lore.
Amid the rising temperatures, the UP Secondary Teachers Association has demanded postponement of summer camps in schools, citing the health risks to children in the extreme heat and lack of proper cooling infrastructure.
