In addition to SII’s Covishield vaccination, Lucknow’s health department has decided to induct COVAXIN in the city’s second round vaccination drive, scheduled for Friday. About 85 booths at 32 centres in Lucknow will conduct the second vaccination session, starting January 22, where 3 city hospitals will administer COVAXIN shots, including, Lokbandhu Hospital, SPM Civil Hospital and Rani Laxmibai Hospitals. Other vaccine centres will use Covishield, read reports. Lucknow has planned to immunise a total of 8,500 health care workers in the second round of inoculation.
A detailed protocol to authorise administration of COVAXIN in Lucknow
Co-developed by Bharat Biotech and the Indian Council of Medical Research, COVAXIN is India’s first indigenously developed vaccine against the coronavirus. To be launched in the second round of vaccination, COVAXIN will be authorised by a detailed protocol as a precautionary measure, informed the Lucknow health department officials. Though this vaccine is still going through its last leg of trials, the Drug Controller General of India has granted approval for emergency use in India.
Therefore, an informative protocol has been established to eliminate hesitancy among people about the new vaccine, stated the Lucknow CMO. As per the plan of action, the recipient will be informed about the vaccine first, post which he or she will have to share their complete medical history. An on-spot medical test will be carried out later and the interested beneficiary will have sign the consent form. After the completion of this, the vaccine will be administered, explained the CMO.
Lucknow has slotted the immunisation of 51,000 health care workers in the first phase of inoculation. After health workers, frontline and essential workers, police officers will be vaccinated in the second phase, followed by those who are over 50 years of age or have comorbidity(s). Every beneficiary will be given two shots of the vaccine, 28 days apart, for full immunity.
