A Lucknow University faculty member has achieved a feat at a global level by being chosen as one of a developer of a UNESCO course. Kiran Lata Dangwal, a professor in the department of Education at the university, will be developing the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) in the international online mentoring programme of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The programme aims at harnessing open education’s potential of providing high-quality educational resources and means to all and, in turn, achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

In conversation with Knocksense, Professor Kiran Lata Dangwal talked about the MOOC, “There will be two courses, the first of which will launch in April. These open courses are free of cost and available to anyone and every one all over the world.”

Dangwal, who specialises in ICT-enabled education and educational technology, continued, “The courses are aimed at providing equity, access, and life-long learning.”

The Lucknow University professor will join hands with Doctor Kavita Batra from Haryana and develop the online course together. Her mentor is from Canada’s University of Regina, Isaac Mulolani, while the coordinator for MOOC is Prof Subha Das Mollick from Kolkata.

In the modern era of digitised education, MOOCs are an affordable means to building knowledge, a flexible and accessible way of learning and developing skills.
