The international cricket stadium in Lucknow hasn’t seen any exciting match since the India v/s West Indies T20I that happened last year. We have been eagerly waiting for new cricket matches to take place here and finally witness some international level cricketing.
In the past, Lucknow’s Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium (BRABVICS) was expected to be in the line-up of the last IPL matches, yet Lucknow turned empty handed, which came as a disappointment to cricket crazy fans.
The next match (until now), is expected to take place in the city in 2020. Just when we were sure that we’ll have to wait for over a year to watch a match, Lucknow’s BRABVICS was declared the (adopted) home ground for the Afghani team.

The ‘Committee of Administrators’ appointed by the Supreme Court declared Lucknow to be the home ground for the Afghani team yesterday. According to reports, the decision was a toss between Dehradun and Lucknow, but due to the lack of 5-star facilities in Dehradun, Lucknow was picked as the home ground.
The Afghanistan team will now be able to host other teams for tests, T20I and ODIs. Due to a state of unrest in Afghanistan the cricket team has been supported time and again by India. In fact, many of Afghanistan’s matches have been hosted in the country. They have had several other home grounds including Greater Noida where they played against Ireland and Hyderabad where they played Bangladesh as well as Ireland.
This development will ensure that the locals in Lucknow can expect a number of matches in the coming future. The cricket crazy fans in the city would be glad to know that they would now be able to watch not just India in action but great matches between other teams and Afghanistan. We’re quite pumped to hear the news and can’t wait until the next match is announced.
