Poor maintenance and hygeine issues have now become evident in Lucknow’s iconic Janeshwar Mishra Park. Recently, dead fish were observed in the lake of the park. The incident came to light when morning walkers reported the matter to the LDA officials.
Images of the dead fish in the park’s ponds have recently gone viral on social media, sparking public concern. Meanwhile, the LDA has issued strict warnings against polluting the lake. Warning boards have been installed around the park, prohibiting visitors from feeding the fish or discarding any food items into the water. Officials have also announced that violators may face penalties for non-compliance.
LDA and park authorities start cleanup work in park ponds
Following the complaints, LDA launched a cleanup operation to remove the dead fish from the lake using boats. Workers were also seen collecting other waste materials from the water, including polythene bags, packets, cans and wooden debris. Sanitation workers are actively working to clear both the garbage and the deceased fish to restore the lake’s condition.
Once regarded as an iconic landmark and often hailed as one of the largest parks in Asia, Janeshwar Mishra Park has faced growing neglect in recent years. Issues such as poor hygiene, broken pathways and deteriorating infrastructure have been persistent. While the cleanup of the lake is underway, the park urgently requires regular maintenance and a more robust cleanliness effort by the city authorities to uphold its status as a premier public space.
