The Department of Surgery at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has announced plans to incorporate robotic surgery. In the near future, a proposal regarding the same will be sent to the concerned authorities.
The department of surgery at KGMU, that conducts an average of 10,000 surgeries every year, is working on a plan to conduct robotic surgeries for hernia and breast cancer, among other ailments.
KGMU to opt for less expensive robots first
The Head of Department of Surgery at King George’s Medical University, Prof. A.A. Sonkar said “We would go for cheaper robots to do some of the surgeries with their help. The usual price is between Rs 25 crore to Rs 30 crore but we would opt the ones costing around Rs 15 crore. The main benefit will be speedy recovery of the patient.”
There’s a range of benefits of robotic surgery for patients including reduced discomfort and faster recovery, not to mention precise handiwork. Furthermore, KGMU has already shifted to minimally invasive forms of surgery using laparoscopic methods thanks to the technological advancements and the experts it has at its disposal.
In fact, 97% of all bladder surgeries at KGMU are now conducted using laparoscopic methods. The plans to conduct robotic surgeries will further add to KGMU’s ability to provide the best possible medical care in Lucknow to patients.
