With an aim to promote the comprehensive growth of children belonging to backward families, and those who have been orphaned during the Covid-19 pandemic, the UP government is now initiating the admission process for the inaugural session of Atal Residential Schools. The schools will provide these children with access to advanced educational facilities.

Currently, 16 out of the total 18 Atal Schools in different districts of UP are ready functioning. Under the admission process, entrance tests have been administered in their respective districts over the past few months. The admission process is expected to conclude by June 23, with all successful candidates securing their placements in Atal Schools.

In this pioneering initiative, the Atal Residential Schools will adopt a similar framework as the Navodaya Vidyalayas and implement the CBSE curriculum.

These schools will encompass essential facilities such as an academic block, separate hostels for boys and girls, a mess, as well as residential spaces for the principal and staff. Additionally, the schools will be equipped with suitable amenities to cater to the needs of day boarding students.

Under the initiative, children whose parents hold e-shramik cards for a minimum of 3 years and are registered with the Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (UPBOCW) are eligible for admission to the Atal Residential Schools. Additionally, children who have lost one or both parents due to Covid-19 are also eligible to apply for admission.

Thorough evaluation of the Atal schools to be conducted before the start of the session

Due to the ongoing construction work at two district schools in Bareilly and Moradabad, temporary arrangements will be made to accommodate the enrolled children. Students enrolled in the Bareilly school will be temporarily relocated to Lucknow, while those enrolled in the Moradabad school will be temporarily relocated to Meerut. These arrangements will remain in effect until the construction work is completed.

Additionally, the educational commissioners have been instructed to conduct a thorough evaluation of the schools prior to the commencement of the sessions.
