Lucknow’s Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) now has a dedicated Yoga lab, Yogashala. This complex, located in RMLIMS’ physiology department, will function with the major objective of offering holistic growth and treatment combined with medical care. Further, the zone has a large hall and three labs, namely the Autonomic Nervous System Function Lab, the Pulmonary Function Test Lab and the Neurophysiology lab.
While the hall will be utilised for Yoga practise, the aforementioned labs will help measure and track the patients’ physiological and biochemical levels.
Studying positive effects of Yoga on patients
Yoga, an ancient practice, is the physical activity bringing about stress-relief, relaxation and peace, mental well-being and physical health enhancement through posture-based exercises. Thus, Yogashala will also study the impact of Yoga on patients, besides monitoring improvement in their physical aspect.
“The lab will help in collecting scientific evidence of the positive effect of Yoga on the patients,” said Manish Verma, assistant professor, physiology department.
Through the effort, Yogashala is expected to bring a holistic approach to medical treatment and will be beneficial to patients suffering from different neurological, psychosomatic and metabolic disorders.
